Writing 250 words IELTS test : Student Accommodation Posted: 04 Aug 2011 08:33 PM PDT Being a student is a great experience. One of the biggest decisions you will have to make is about where to live while studying. This guide takes you through the issues to consider when making your choice. Probably one of the biggest decisions you need to make is whether you want to go into halls of residence or private accommodation. Generally, students go into halls for the first year and then look for private accommodation later on in their university lives. The location of your accommodation is also important - especially if you'll be living in private accommodation. Issues to consider here include the crime rate, what the area is like at night, how much it costs to live there and how far it is from the university. If you live in a 'university town' there will probably be a few areas where students typically live, but you shouldn't let this limit your search as you might find a better deal elsewhere. Whether you want to move into a house or flat will also be an important decision you need to make. This might depend somewhat on the town you are living in. Generally speaking, if you go into halls of residence you are more likely to live in a flat, and if you choose private accommodation students are more likely to live in a house. A house often works out to be more cost effective depending on the location, but it also depends on your preferences. You also need to think about how many people you want to share with. Often, university is a time when as many people as possible live together in a house, but other people prefer to live with just a few people. You need to think about how comfortable you'd be with lots of people in the house, or whether you'd be happier with just a few friends. Issues to consider here include the facilities that are available in the house you have chosen to live in. Finally, there is that all-important decision as to who you actually want to share with. Ideally, you want to share with people who will be reliable and pay their share of the bills on time. You might also want to consider sharing with people who are relatively clean and tidy, and who won't damage the property while you're living there. Lots of people like to live with people off their course, or you could live with other friends depending on who you get on with best. |
